The vaccine is called Antivirus
An antivirus, nowadays, is absolutely essential. Many dealers install them directly on the PC computer for sale, but sometimes this does not happen. In this case, do not you dare to connect to the Internet would be like riding a motorbike without a helmet.
A good anti-virus is a program that, in addition to rebirth and eliminate known viruses, must be able to cope with ever new emergencies. First of all it must be able to continuously update (in the jargon, update) the specifications of the new virus, called “signatures.” But most important, when this is not possible, it must provide for mechanisms for the recognition of possible new virus, even if only with probabilistic systems (method called “heuristic”): in practice must recognize a potentially harmful code.
A virus does not limit only to check all files (system or not) on your computer, but also checks the integrity of the sector of the boot of the PC and the file system directly boot the machine. It must also monitor, in real time, the computer’s memory, registry configurations, the file system and, in general, the processes are running. Must be able to scan, at the bottom, any file type: for example, also compressed ones. Also, most important, must check each email (especially attachments) incoming and outgoing calls. Must be able to find viruses that lurk in the macro of some applications. Another important thing: to create a rescue disk with which to start the machine in case of infection. If you can find any infected files that can not be cleaned, it must be a procedure for placing in quarantine , pending updates that allow to save it.
Usually an antivirus scan engine incorporates a rummaging inside all files and disassembles them, in real time, you search within the presence of certain sequences of bytes (virus signatures) that identify the virus. As mentioned, the update of the database of these signatures is crucial.
Remove viruses with AVG
There are dozens of excellent antivirus, who perform all the operations specified above: the best known are certainly Norton Antivirus and McAfee VirusScan. In these pages, however, we suggest the free alternative (in English) AVG avg.com. In Section Step by step this issue, on page IV, find a practical guide to using the program.
When AVG finds a virus during a scan, report it and continues on his way. Only at the end of the operation (when all the resources have been checked) you will get a full report that includes the number of files scanned, and especially of those infected. Write down the names of these parasites and take a ride on the site avg.com , where you will find a search engine (“Virus Encyclopaedia”) to find out how to remove the infection. In most cases AVG provides by itself, automatically: in the “Test finished” you will find the number of virus deleted (“Virus removed by healing“). If, however, the virus launches the message “Infected, Embedded object”, this means that the virus has been found, but the file can not be deleted automatically. Often these are compressed files that you must delete them manually. If the archive contains multiple files, you can unzip into a new folder and make a new scan, identifying infected files; In this way you will not lose any documents.
The question is a bit ‘more complicated if it is to be infected area of the system. In this case, you must use the recovery disk (which is created during the installation of the program): restart your PC with the floppy disk inserted in the floppy drive. The computer will boot in DOS mode: prompt type “Avg.exe” and press Enter.
When you start the AVG screen, select the command “Test and restore.”
