Here’s how to create a simple code to your own movies using the tools provided by the video editing software .
The boom of digital cameras and the availability of many editing programs have approached many people in the world of video and now many are able to make their own movies of a certain complexity.
What’s better then a nice absolutely recognizable symbol to make our movie?
In these pages we will try to analyze the main elements that make up an acronym ; learn to mix them with each other in order to create one, although simple, aimed at making our movies instantly recognizable settled, purely by way of example, in the world of off-road motorcycle sport . To do this we will use Pinnacle Studio, a product comes with some features are useful for our purpose , starting with the overlay track to finish with functions dedicated to the production of the soundtrack.
Storyboard or timeline?
As well as many other video editing programs , Pinnacle Studio has two different modes of use : Storyboard and Timeline. The first is devoted mainly to users who have just approached for this kind of products , while the second offers more possibilities and is preferred by those who have already acquired some experience .
The use of the Timeline is practically essential to exploit the contributions video , graphics and sound that are the basis of a video production. The basic tracks to create a theme song are basically three : video, text and audio. However, if we want to achieve better results we have to make the most of the second video track (also known as track overlay ) the provision by Studio. Thanks to the availability of two video tracks can in fact overlap two clips and take advantage of sophisticated effects such as Picture in Picture (PiP ) and Chroma Key is to mix graphic contributions that video clip.
Picture in Picture and Chroma Key The effect Picture in Picture , also available in many TVs to allow viewing of two programs simultaneously, can be exploited to make a video appear on top of another , for example in a central window or in a box. In reality it is nothing more than a variant of the Chroma Key effect that allows you to pop over to a video a few items that were not present , and often could not be present during the actual filming . Consider, for example , a ball that suddenly enters the field with an inscription which consists below it. In this case, the animation of the ball and of the texts is realized in computer graphics, is then inserted within the video by exploiting the effect of Chroma Key, often called ” blue-screen” or “green ” because the element to be inserted is resumed or made on a uniform background of blue or green .
This is then removed from the computer in order to bring up the video below , to obtain the desired result. The blue is used as a background because , by deleting it from the
image , it is not going to affect the colors that make up the human skin in theory Pinnacle Pinnacle Studio allows you to use any color , the important thing is that this is not the image that we want to overlap , otherwise the corresponding parts would be eliminated along with the background .
Titles and Effects tool to create titles integrated into Pinnacle Studio ( Editor ) is a powerful application for the creation and editing of graphics. For its
characteristics it is essential to the realization of acronyms . The wide range of effects applied to text and images, the possibilities of animation and the tools provided in the titler , in fact, provide endless possibilities for the design of a visual symbol .
When you open the editor you can see the main area ( within which we can enter text ), the instrument panel and the Title Editor Album . There are several ways to access the titler . To create a title or full-screen menu , for example, you can select the ” Go to … ” Editor Title / Menu from the context menu , which is activated by pressing the right mouse button on the video track .
On the contrary, if we want to create an overlay title can double-click on the title track on the Timeline . In any case, a title created in the overlay can be turned into a title in full screen by simply dragging it into the video track (of course also applies vice versa).
Pinnacle Studio allows you to create titles stationary , vertical scrolling , in which the text and graphics across the screen from bottom to top ( the classic titles or tail ) , and horizontal scrolling , in which a single line of text scrolls from right to left . Titles can then be integrated with vector objects such as ellipses and rectangles, which allow you to easily create vignettes , dowels and other useful elements to the implementation of our initials . Since objects can overlap can happen that one of them , which should be fully visible , is rather obscured in whole or in part by one or more objects . In this case we use the four reordering commands available from the Layer menu in the Title Editor .
In our case we use the titler to create two titles.
At first we will apply the effect of vertical scrolling, activated by pressing the vertical arrow that appears in the upper left inside the titler , per second instead will not apply any effect as will later be used in combination with the function of Picture in Picture , to make even more sophisticated our initials .
When you create a scrolling title by default, the program chooses a certain length of time , which can be varied simply by shortening or lengthening the video clip in the Timeline. In our case we want the title to appear very quickly , going to be placed at the center of the screen , after which it remains in that position for a number of seconds. To do this it is necessary to reduce the duration of the animation and create a second title which is identical to the one just done ( using the Copy and Paste to duplicate the object ) but static , to be appended to the first so that at the end of ‘ animation the writing remains fixed in its final position . The second title just place it on the track overlay and use the “Add Video Overlay Effects ” from the ” Toolbox ” to appear under the word before. To achieve the desired effect you need to select the panel that contains the functions associated with Picture in Picture effect , and set the “Scale” as a mode of overlay. To beautify all apply to this second written a fade effect by selecting it inside the specific page of the Album , so that fulfills progressively from black.
Superimpose the video In our case we will use the Picture in Picture effect also insert video contributions on the main movie which will appear in full screen. The first thing to do is to drag some video clips on the timeline . Those who will compose the background shall be issued on the video track (apart from the title that will be placed on the specific track ) , while those who intend to superimpose will be placed on the overlay track , positioned immediately below. Once you have placed the contributions , we select the first clip and recall again that we want to superimpose the control panel on the Picture in Picture effect .
We want the first video to appear in a box at the top right , so the default value ( ” preset” ) will set ” Upper Right Corner .” To improve the appearance is good to create a small black border around the video clip, selecting the color for the border and changing the cursor relative to the width of the same . We repeat this step for the second video, this time using as the default ” Right Bottom Corner ” and applying the same edge.
Abbreviations sophisticated At this point , our initials is ready. Of course it is also possible to create more complex effects , for example by using programs to create three-dimensional graphics and animations overlapping with the Chroma Key effect . It is in any case more complex operations , which we intend to address in an upcoming episode
Create a theme song for the movie with Pinnacle Studio We used terms :
Fade : Contrary to fade , it is said of the image that appears progressively from a black background.
Chroma Key : A technique that allows you to make a color transparent (so-called “key” ) revealing an image or video present in the background.
Clip: Single file to be used in the assembly . In the case of video material , in general , corresponds to a scene or recovery , but if it is sound , can be a noise , a song , the dialogue of a scene and so on.
Black: In the jargon , completely dark piece of video
Overlay : Overlay . The term can mean so much a movie to be superimposed on another , because the trace of the program where the movie is positioned to overlap .
Picture in Picture (PiP ) : Effect that allows you to insert a video or image inside another video .
Stereo: Audio format that uses two sound channels (left and right ) to place the sounds
Other terms used for the creation of an acronym for movies
Storyboard: Representation of a movie created showing the first frame of each scene. Surround: Technology to record multiple audio channels in a stereo track .
Timecode : Code recorded on the tape that marks every frame with its exact position in time (date and time of shooting) .
Timeline: Representation of a movie about a kind of temporal strip where every scene has a width proportional to its length .
Vector : dices of geometric shapes or designs stored in the form of vectors – or sequences of instructions tracking .
