What is System Information (msinfo32)

System Information (also known as msinfo32.exe ) is a tool present in all Microsoft Windows operating systems that allows you to view information about the hardware configuration and computer components, software environment and device drivers installed.

How to start the System Information (msinfo32)

To start system information (msinfo32) press on the computer keyboard keys Windows (is the key with the Windows logo) and R simultaneously.
This opens the Run .
In the Open: we type msinfo32 and we click on OK .
(If you opens the UAC we click on Continue ).
This will open the System Information .

What are the categories of System Information (msinfo32)

The information in system information (msinfo32) are divided into the following categories and subcategories:

System Resources

Clicking on the category system resources we view general information about the profile of the computer ( Name andVersion Operating System , System Name , type system , processor , BIOS Version / Date , Boot Device , User Name , Physical Memory (RAM) , File paging .

Hardware Resources

Conflicts / Sharing
This category displays information to help identify hardware conflicts. Lists the resource conflicts between devices ISA (Industry Standard Architecture), the parallel bus disused used to connect older video cards, sound and network and shared resources from peripheral PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect).

DMA View l ‘ channel list DMA (direct memory access) in use. The DMA is the mechanism that allows devices to directly access the internal memory without involving the CPU.

Driver System
Displays information about system drivers installed (name, description, file, type, start mode, status, control error).

Signed Drivers (this category only in Windows Vista and Windows XP) Display driver information system with signature Microsoft digital certificates.

Environment Variables Displays the list of environment variables Windows. Environment variables are strings that contain information about the operating system and the user who is logged on. This information is used by some programs to determine for example the location of temporary files.

Loaded modules View a list of all modules loaded into memory and related DLL libraries that contain code and data used by multiple programs simultaneously. In the loaded modules contains the following information: name, version, size, file date, manufacturer and location.

Services View the list of services running on the system (display name, name, status, start mode, type of service, location, control error, boot name, tag ID). Program Groups Lists programs that are part of the Start menu for each user who has a profile on the computer.

Startup Programs Lists programs that run automatically from the registry or Startup folder.

OLE RegistrationView object and local server components registered as programs OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) technology developed by Microsoft for creating compound documents (compound document).

Windows Error Reporting View error information generated Event Log, information that we can see through the event viewer .

We press on the computer keyboard keys Windows and R simultaneously.
This opens the Run .
In the Open: we type cmd , and we click on OK .
(If you open the window UAC we click on Continue ).
This will open the Command Prompt .
We type msinfo32 / nfo C: \ info.txt
C: \ info.txt indicates the path where we chose to save the file info .
We press the button Enter on the computer keyboard and wait for the loading of information.
