IP Address of your computer


Let’s see how to know the IP of Windows , code number used to uniquely identify a computer connected to a network the Internet (public) or a local area network (private).
In the first part of the post is descitto known as the ‘ Private IP , the IP address used to identify the PC within the same local area network (LAN) and in the second part of the post describes how to know the ‘ public IP , the IP address used to browse the Internet (→ difference between public IP and private IP ).
The following guide can be used for all computer running Windows 10, Windows 8.1 / 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP.

 

HOW TO KNOW THE PRIVATE IP OF THE COMPUTER

Method 1

We press on the computer keyboard keys Windows (the button with the Windows logo) and R simultaneously.
This will open the Run .
In the Open: we type cmd, and we click on OK .
This will open the Command Prompt .
We type ipconfig and we press Enter on the keyboard.
In the results displayed try these items:

IPv4 address . . . . . . . . . . . . : xxx.xxx.xx
Subnet Mask. . . . . . . . . . . . . : Xxx.xxx.xxx.x
Default Gateway. . . . . . . . . : Xxx.xxx.xx

private IP address

The private IP address used at the moment by our computer will be the value of four numbers displayed next to IPv4 Address .

Method 2

We press on the computer keyboard keys Windows (the button with the Windows logo) and R simultaneously.
This will open the Run .
In the Open: we type ncpa.cpl and we click on OK .
This will open the dialog box Connections Network .
In the Network Connections icon will be displayed or icons of the network adapters of our computer. Important : the wired network connections ( cable ) will be indicated as Ethernet and wireless network connections will be displayed to the term Wi-Fi .

If your PC is connected to the Internet via the cable network we are using the Ethernet network adapter. If your PC is connected to the Internet through wireless network card we are using Wi-Fi. We double-click the ‘ icon of the network card of which we want to know the private IP. We click on the button Details …

The private IP address used at the moment by our computer will be displayed in the column value , alongside IPv4 address ( IPv4 – IP Address in Windows Vista). If you’re using Windows XP, double-click the ‘ icon of the network card in use and do tab support . The indirizzzo private IP will be shown next to IP Address .
