It is usually not a good thing to turn off automatic updates, it is very important that your PC is up to date, so it is more secure as well as the possibility of some problems that can be solved on the PC, although in the past I wrote an article where explain if updates can slow down your PC.
In your case, however, may have the sense to disable them, I’ll explain how to receive notification of available updates, but it will be at your discretion to decide when to install them. In this way you will not have even the “splash” to remind you 1-2 times a month to do the search for updates.
To disable automatic updates
(the procedure applies to Windows 7, but it is very similar for XP and Vista) and make sure that you appear a notification whenever they are available, do this:
- Click Start.
- Control Panel.
- Windows Update.
- The Change Settings (left column).
- I suggest you select “Check for updates but let me choose whether to download …”, in this way you will not be installed but you will be aware that updates are available. Alternatively, you can select, but I do not recommend it, “never check for updates.”
- Close all windows by clicking OK. If you have an Android phone, remember to update your operating system, you do that.
