Database Microsoft Works

A database is a program whose primary function is to store the data. seem As a typical business application, which serves little or nothing to the individual user and their personal computer, it is actually an inexhaustible source of ideas. With a database we can put order in each of our collection (recipes, CDs, films, addresses, wedding lists, and so on), and easily find any information stored in the past.

Suite Microsoft Works

database contains a very simple to use, yet feature-rich, which allows you to store data, display them in different representations and print the results. Before you begin the actual explanation on the operation of Database, we need to do a little ‘light on some of the concepts and terms. It’s called ” Record “all types of information about a single item. If our database is an address book, a record will be the first and last name, address and telephone number of Mario Rossi. The same data, relating to Francesco Bianchi, will form another record. Each record contains one or more ” fields “, that is, spaces dedicated to collect some specific information stored in the database. “Name”, “Last Name” and “Phone Number” are three fields in our database. Each field has a “format”, which can be numeric, text, mixed, media and so on. The “data” are the final and most important part of the database. To them we are referring to denote all the information entered in their respective fields.

The collection of videos and DVDs at home, it grows quickly and is difficult to keep under control, especially if you have the dangerous habit of providing the movie!MICROSOFT WORKS 9 - RETAIL

We learn to organize our collection by using the Works Database . From the menu Start / Programs / Microsoft Works launched the program “Microsoft Works Database.” Select “Model” and click “OK”. Click “Worksheets home inventory”, then “Video and DVD Collection” and “Finish” to finish. 3The program there provides a card that is already ready to host the most important information of all the movies. We can begin to insert them without caring to complete each field: it is always possible to add information later. The field in which you are about to enter the data is shown in black, to move from one field to another, you can use the mouse, the Tab key (SHIFT + TAB to go back), or the arrows that are next to the numeric keypad . If you need to change the contents of a field, click it and press F2.

The first step is to save the database.

Open the menu File / Save and then choose a folder that you have to keep in mind: the classic My Documents folder is fine. Give a name to the program and remember that the file extension of the Works Database. “Wdb”. The program provides us with a card that is already ready to host the most important information of all the movies. We can begin to insert them without caring to complete each field: it is always possible to add information later. The field in which you are about to enter the data is shown in black, to move from one field to another, you can use the mouse, the Tab key ( SHIFT + TAB to go back), or the arrows that are next to the numeric keypad . If you need to change the contents of a field, click it and press F2

When you get to the bottom of the tab after the last field, the program automatically saves the data entered and provides a new tab to enter information relating to another tape. The job of a database, as we have said many times, it becomes valuable gradually that its content is enriched, so at this early stage be prepared to write a lot, without expecting other great rewards. In the future, when you purchase a new video or DVD, please fill out the form immediately in the database, you will avoid accumulating backlog and you will have a constantly updated database (it is obvious that a database is not updated is of little value). As you add new records in your archive, you will grow the number on the status bar. This small section is an important indicator: you can know the number of videotapes that you have entered up to this point and move back and forth between the various records, using the small arrows pointing left and right. The arrows with a dash allow you to quickly reach the first and last records in the database.

Once you have filled the fields enough, it’s time to take a look at the database as a whole. From the View menu, choose “Report” and specify the type of list you want (by title, actor and so on). Click “Preview”. You can print out the result with the “Print” button. To return to the initial display, open the View menu again and select “Card”.

Do not you remember how the movie is titled with Abatantuono that you liked so much? The database is at your help. If you want to search for a particular record, open the Edit / Find and type in the search term. Put a check mark next to “All records” and click “OK”. The database will be placed directly on the card that contains the records sought. You can also print a single card through the File / Print menu.
